How to enter lap times into the advanced motorsports data acquisition software. The
Advantage Motorsports software that is supplied with all of our data
acquisition systems has the power to overlay unlimited number of laps. (from
different laps, drivers, races, sessions etc.)
While
you only need 1 method, there are 3 different ways that lap times can be
entered. Your
application will determine what method is best for you, our software supports
all 3. 1.
Method 1: The Stopwatch This
popular method is simply an extension of what most race teams are already doing.
If you already have someone timing the race vehicle, simply have them
start the stopwatch when the data logger is started, and write down the lap
times of the racing session. The
lap times can be entered directly into your racing data using your PC’s
keyboard, after the data after it
is downloaded from the race vehicle. This
is a very accurate and dependable method, and adds no cost to the data
acquisition system. 2. Method 2: Steering Wheel Switch A
popular method for those who travel to the track by themselves, the steering
wheel switch allows
the driver to press a button (mounted on the dash or steering wheel), and
automatically enter lap times into the data acquisition system.
Accuracy of the lap time can vary, dependent upon the consistency of the
driver pushing the switch. Requires
optional steering wheel switch. 3.
Method 3: The Automatic Lap Timing System This
systems speaks for itself. A
trackside beacon is placed on the pit wall and each time the race vehicle passes
the beacon the lap time is automatically sent to the data acquisition system.
Requires optional Automatic Lap Timing System. |
